✨ The Art of Dry Brushing: A Simple Ritual with Big Benefits
As we move into spring—a season of renewal and release—it's the perfect time to support the body's natural detox pathways. One of the simplest and most effective ways to do that? Dry brushing.
This ancient self-care practice, rooted in Ayurvedic and European traditions, involves using a natural-bristled brush to gently stimulate the skin and lymphatic system. It's quick, energizing, and deeply grounding.
🌿 What Are the Benefits of Dry Brushing?
Lymphatic support: Stimulates the lymph system to help flush toxins and reduce stagnation
Exfoliation: Sloughs off dead skin cells, revealing softer, smoother skin
Circulation boost: Encourages blood flow, bringing nutrients to the surface and invigorating the body
Cellulite + skin tone: With regular practice, many notice improved tone and texture
Energizing ritual: Great to do in the morning—it wakes you up and gets energy moving
🪥 How to Dry Brush
Choose a natural-bristle brush (with or without a handle)
Start at your feet, using firm but gentle strokes upward toward your heart
Brush each area 5–10 times, always moving toward the center of the body
Don’t forget your arms, back, and stomach (circular motions on the belly are lovely!)
Follow with a warm shower and moisturize with a nourishing oil—sesame or sunflower oil are beautiful choices
✨ Ayurvedic Perspective
In Ayurveda, dry brushing is called garshana and is used to invigorate kapha dosha, especially during spring when kapha tends to be high. It’s a wonderful way to move sluggish energy, clear lymph, and feel lighter in body and mind.
🌸 When to Dry Brush
Best done in the morning, before bathing
Avoid dry brushing over broken, irritated, or sunburned skin
If you’re new, start 2–3 times per week and increase as your skin adjusts
