Shingles, also known as Herpes Zoster, is a viral infection caused by the reactivation of the varicella-zoster virus (the same virus responsible for chickenpox). It is characterized by a painful rash and often affects older adults or individuals with weakened immune systems. Conventional treatments involve antiviral medications and Ayurvedic wisdom offers insights into balancing the body’s energies to support healing and relieve symptoms.   These two approaches can work well together.

Why your Pectoralis muscles matter.

Why your Pectoralis muscles matter.

Why the Pectoralis Muscles Matter:

  • Posture: With many people spending time hunched over computers or phones, the pecs tend to tighten, contributing to rounded shoulders and forward head posture. This creates tension and pain in the neck and upper back.

  • Shoulder Mobility: The pec major is responsible for movements like bringing the arm across the body (adduction) and internal rotation. Tightness here can limit shoulder mobility. The pec minor stabilizes and lowers the shoulder blade.

  • Breathing: Since they attach to the ribs, tight pec muscles can restrict the rib cage's ability to expand and relax, affecting deep breathing. When was the last time you took a deep breath?

The Importance of Moisturizing Your Skin as You Age: A Wellness Perspective

As we age, our skin undergoes significant changes that make proper moisturizing more essential than ever. Over time, the skin naturally loses its ability to retain moisture due to a decrease in the production of natural oils and collagen. This can lead to dryness, fine lines, wrinkles, and a dull complexion. Proper hydration helps to combat these effects by nourishing the skin and keeping it soft, supple, and resilient.

Why drink mint water?

Why drink mint water?

Did you know that adding fresh mint to your water during the summer does more than just taste good?

Tear up a few mint leaves and add to your water to help cool your system while soothing your digestion and supporting your respiratory system. Let the mint sit in your water for a few hours or overnight to get the most effect.

Mint can also help to lower high blood pressure, calm the nervous system (have stress?), boost immunity, and decrease inflammation.

Lemon balm is also a member of the mint family and has a citrusy minty taste. Adding lemon balm with mint increases the calming effect of your water and helps sleep, anxiety, and indigestion.

Check out the link for a yummy recipe for Hibiscus Mint Sun Tea from Joyful Belly!

Stay hydrated, stay calm, stay healthy!
