Benefits of Prenatal Massage
Massage therapy during pregnancy has more to offer than just feeling good. Jamye was trained as a certified doula before getting licensed as a massage therapist. She even took a pause from massage to return to school for her nursing degree, with an intention to become a midwife. Then her son came along, and with that Jamye chose to return to massage so that she could be present as a mother and have control over her schedule.
According to the American Pregnancy Association, prenatal massage can:
Reduce back pain.
Reduce joint pain.
Improve circulation.
Reduce edema.
Reduce muscle tension and headaches.
Reduce stress and anxiety.
Improve oxygenation of soft tissues and muscles.
Give you better sleep.
Jamye’s love for serving her mamas has grown exponentially over the years. She has a custom massage table that allows pregnant clients to lay face down; a real treat when you have been restricted to lying on your sides for a couple months!
Jamye knows lots of tricks when it comes to supporting the growing body during pregnancy. Often the hips and low back will have pains that can be remedied with some gentle neuromuscular therapy. Tension in the neck and shoulders is also common as the baby grows and puts pressure on mom’s internal organs and diaphragm; this causes mom to use neck and shoulder muscles more to breathe.
Using essential oils that are generally safe during pregnancy as well as warm stones to ease strained muscles will give the mom-to-be in your life an hour of comfort that she won’t soon forget!
